The Rock of Cashel is located just outside the town of Cashel in County Tipperary. The name "Cashel" is derived from the Gaelic words "Caiseal Mumhan" which literally means "stone fort of Munster". Munster is one of the four ancient Irish kingdom realms from 500A.D. onward, which are known today as the four provinces of Ireland. There are actually four different structures built here at Rock of Cashel at different time periods, that span between the 3rd and the 12th century. This is truly a mystical fort spanning the ages, the history and legend here has filled books. Special to Guinness drinkers, in this same town of Cashel, the first Guinness is said to have been brewed! :) Hail Guinness!
